Civil Service Sports Ground

The development on the old Civil Service Sports Ground now has full planning permission and Persimmon Homes will be moving onto the site early in 2010 to clear the site of the old sports facility buildings. Work on the building of the new houses etc will start as soon as possible after that.

Marston Marshes Footpath Bid

An application is being made by EVRA to the big lottery fund for a grant to create a hard core footpath round the Marston Marshes thus making it accessible in all weather conditions and all year round for everyone including wheel chairs and prams/buggies. This will create a circular foot path connecting the two access points on Marston Lane including a long section beside the river. Letters of support for this project, which we are being guided by the Norwich Fringe Project, would be very welcome.

Eaton Concert Series

A full programme of upcoming concerts is now shown on the Eaton Concerts page.

20mph It's not myself who needs a list of accidents/injuries to jusity a reduction in the speed limit, all that is needed is common sense. And when given an example that was a fatality in the area and not just "Daily Mail" statistics (25/9) it still does not provoke a little common sense, but a who is at fault attitude!! Shocking, i can only hope people who knew the victim aren't reading this. The fact is that person may have survived if hit at a lower impact, RoSPA research not just figures plucked out of thin air. The incident proves that at 30mph a pedestrian will 9/10 become a fatality, if hit at 20mph 9/10 likely to survive . One incident proves alot and one fatality is enough, or do you require more fatalities to be sure? That appears to be what you are asking !RoSPA is quoted as it is a charitable impartial organisation- no twisting with the figures. And you're right we are going around in circles, some people just don't want to see sense as they will be inconvenienced! What you forge

20 mph limit So since requesting a list of accidents in Eaton over two weeks ago it has'nt appeared apart from some more ROSPA figures and reference to a fatality involving a cyclist. But, who was to fault, the cyclist or driver? Most of each have had to avoid each other at some time. One incident proves nothing.I think it's about time the subject was dropped as we are going round in circles... Statistics As R.Harding said, can anyone supply a list of accidents during the past 3 years? Also I would like say to those who may have the wrong impression of me that whilst I drive drive a high performance car I confine my speeding to track days and personally a 20mph speed limit would not bother me as I would adhere to it. I just think, like many others that it is unnecessary in this instance, the greater danger coming from drivers using mobiles, and texting as I noticed in Greenways last week. That practice is totally illegal and as dangerous as drunk driving and the police are unable to enforce that effectively! Submitted By: Mike

20mph RoSPA statisitcs for 2008, 700 people die each year due to accidents involving excess speed. 450 die each year due to drink driving. Not sure where your statisitics are from, but do you require a fatality to jusitfy change?. 2538 are killed each year on the roads and 26034 seriously injured. No harm is done to anyone by driving a little slower at 20mph. Newmarket Road is part of Eaton and a cyclist in his 20's was killed in the 30mph zone earlier this year, or do we conveniently have short term memories? Submitted By: tufty

Speed limit "Let's make it 10 mph" - Oh come on now you're being silly! "There have been no accidents" - that's fantastic. Where did you get this info? "20 mph is unenforceable" - regardless of a 20 or 30mph limit, there will always be a minority who consciously break the law Submitted By: Jon

20mph 20 mph is enforceable. I'm assuming we are all law abiding citizens, so if the speed limit is 20 mph then the majority of people would stick to it. Only those who are ignorant and have no care for the law would ignore it !. You may have doubts about he voting but the statistics are very clear on the RoSPA. 2/3 of collisions where people are killed or seriously injured occur in urban areas. A life saved is not a waste of money. Pity people didn't think like that! Submitted By: tufty

20mph Ok, one final statistic. Speeding drivers were involved in only 3% of accidents. (Gov. figs 25.9.08) Driving under the influence of drink or drugs is responsible for more. Should we breathalize all Eaton motorists? Submitted By: Mike

20mph speed limits Oh for goodness sake! This has gone on for long enough. Let's make it 10mph, that's even safer. There have been no accidents, 20mph is unenforceable and a waste of money. I have doubts of the validity of the voting as well. Submitted By: Mike

20mph So for a change in the speed limit, an accident resulting in an injury however serious has to occur!! Total madness. Why can't people understand that driving slower is safer for everyone. It's not rocket science. Submitted By: tufty
